Home : About Us: Baron/BAMS/Radar
WxWorx is part of a larger family of companies operating under the Baron Services umbrella. It is the mobile arm of the Baron group, combining capabilities inherent to the parent company with the revolutionary technology of XM WX Satellite Weather.
Baron Services was founded in 1990 with the aim of improving severe weather detection. The resulting innovations created an entirely new type of weathercasting: Baron became the first to offer site-specific, precisely accurate storm tracking, highlighted by the ability to discern estimated times of arrival in local communities.
Baron greatly expanded in the 1990's, establishing a trusted brand of live Doppler radar used in television stations across the country. While the parent company initially handled all radar development, an offspring affiliate, Baron Radar Services, was founded in 2002.
Baron has placed radars in installations overseas, including Paraguay and Taiwan. The company’s focus on radar development also allows it to maximize the companion weather displays, as well as radar data received from the National Weather Service's NEXRAD program.
Also in 2002, Baron created Baron Advanced Meteorological Systems (BAMS), an outgrowth of North Carolina’s Environmental Modeling Center. BAMS specializes in sophisticated atmospheric modeling. BAMS technology operates in a standalone fashion, but is also integrated into existing Baron products, exemplifying a strong strategic partnership between the Baron group of companies.
Baron's patent portfolio includes nearly 20 patents covering products such as the VIPIR® system, which was recognized nationally for keeping 235 million television viewers informed and weather-aware during the tragic hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and snowstorms that ravaged the country throughout 2004.
To this day, the company is the only weather vendor processing NEXRAD data using its own advanced algorithms, expanding the value of universally available weather data.
