Maptech Chooses XM WX for Their New Touch Screen Marine Navigation System
February 05, 2006

XM WX Satellite Weather has announced that  Maptech will use the XM WX® Satellite Weather data service for its new i3 marine navigation system.  The Maptech i3 uses touch screen technology for its multi-functional, hardware/software chart and photo data system.  This system includes GPS chart navigation, radar, communications, 3D Fishfinder-Sonar, as well as video cameras and entertainment.

A simple touch of the screen calls up a comprehensive suite of weather information such as high resolution radar, wave direction, height and period, lightning strike location, buoy data, sea surface temperatures, surface analysis weather maps and much more.  The addition of XM WX Satellite Weather gives boaters continuously updated weather information in near real-time right on the i3 touch screen.  The data is broadcast over XM’s powerful S-Band geo-stationary satellites, providing redundancy and reliability regardless of the weather conditions.

“The XM WX Satellite Weather option offers the best weather and value for i3 and Sea Ray Navigator customers,” said Doug Steinfeld, Program Manager. “It integrates seamlessly with our i3 navigation system. Maptech has been a leader in offering a
weather module to its touch screen systems. We have watched the XM Weather Service evolve into the leading provider of near-real time weather. Maptech strives to provide our customers with the best technology, and we feel XM WX delivers just that.”

“We are excited to have Maptech as an XM WX partner,” said Roderick MacKenzie, XM’s Satellite Radio’s Vice President of Advanced Applications & Services. “Maptech has done a tremendous job at integrating the XM WX service to their i3 product line.”
